In Conversation with Spencer Murphy:
Saturday 9th July 2016 / 2pm
An extremely successful individual working both as a photographic artist and as a commercial photographer, his bodies of work are creatively and thematically considered and demonstrate a natural ability to transition seamlessly from commercial to fine art practices.
During this forum Murphy will take you through the exhibition Ephemera as well as his Celebrity Portraits, which are also on show at Francesca Maffeo Gallery. It is a wonderful opportunity to engage with the artist and his processes, offering a valuable insight in to his photographic practice.
Spencer Murphy has been selected for numerous awards, notably the Sony World Photography Award in 2014 and the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize in 2013. He has developed a broad portfolio of editorial work, which has been featured in publications such as The Telegraph Magazine, The Guardian Weekend and Time.
Curated by Francesca Genovese, Ephemera draws from Murphy’s personal archives, with the addition of unseen works. The exhibition explores both the landscape and the portrait, all in Murphy’s discernable style, and at times pointing to a museum aesthetic. It is borne from our compulsion to record and preserve things that were only supposed to be transient; we are collectors.
